This year, Charlotte Smith, WEC Program Director, initiated the concept, developed the methodology, conducted the research, and produced the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Report.
This pioneering DEI Report embodies the WEC’s commitment to sharing, learning, and influencing. It enables WEC to focus on key areas as well as shape and influence the narrative of what equality means for both women and men. In partnership with WEC member companies, the report aims to model transparency, promote accountability, and inspire action within businesses and the broader community. The collective data and insights provide a deeper understanding of the efforts being made by companies in China to advance DEI.
“To reap the benefits of diversity and counteract the detrimental loss of women from the workforce due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, companies must take an in-depth look at their data to identify where the gaps are and make strategic leadership and HR decisions in order to achieve gender parity across their organizations,” said Charlotte Smith.
The findings of the DEI Report show that WEC member companies, multinationals (MNCs) based in China, have a 4% higher proportion of women in the workforce compared to the global private sector, with 41.2% compared to 37% globally. The WEC also has a 3% higher proportion of women in top-level leadership compared to APAC, with 30.9% versus 28%, which is on par with global, having reached 31% for the first time on record this year.
The report shares a plethora of strategies, recommendations, and insights on how to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. WEC hopes that these findings will help lay the groundwork, build on progress, and enhance impact for organizations at all stages of the DEI journey!
